Ancient Feelings by Thomas J Price

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia) today unveils Ancient Feelings (2025), a major new public artwork by acclaimed British artist Thomas J Price as the inaugural Neil Balnaves Tallawoladah Lawn Commission, on display through to April 2026.The first in a multi-year series of public works to be featured on the Tallawoladah Lawn overlooking Warrane Sydney Harbour, this striking sculpture is the result of a visionary gift from the Balnaves family on behalf of The Balnaves Foundation in honour of founder, husband and father, Neil Balnaves AO — a passionate supporter of contemporary art, with a firm belief that art should be accessible to all, and a vocal advocate for private philanthropy.

A significant new addition to the cultural landscape to Circular Quay and The Rocks precinct, the series will bring free, large-scale sculptural works by leading contemporary artists in one of Sydney’s most historically and culturally significant sites. Reflecting Neil Balnaves’ belief in art as a catalyst for conversation and inclusion, this landmark program invites conversation and appreciation, and highlights the role philanthropy can play in supporting ground-breaking, ambitious public works of art.
