Bangarra is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation and one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies; widely acclaimed nationally and around the world for its powerful dancing, distinctive theatrical voice and utterly unique soundscapes, music and design.
Since 2017, The Balnaves Foundation has supported Bangarra’s Community Nights program in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Community Nights program is a series of performances for members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, which take place before the performance is open to the general public. The performances are an important component of giving back, paying respect and honouring community relationships that are the foundation blocks forBangarra.
The Foundation’s support for Bangarra has since expanded to include Community Tickets for Bangarra’s Regional Touring program and Bangarra’s school program Wilay; enabling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander school students to access a dedicated matinee performance, at a reduced price. The performance is followed by an ‘In Conversation’ session with some of the dancers and creatives.
2024 will see Bangarra hosting Community Nights for Yuldea; a piece choregraphed by Artistic Director, Frances Rings; which tells the story of the Anangu people of the Great Victorian Desert.
Following the first Regional Tour of Yuldea with Community Ticketing across NSW to Wyong, Nowra, Griffith, Wagga Wagga, Dubbo and Tamworth in March, October will see the production travelling to SA, visiting Mount Gambier, Port Pirie, Wyalla, Renmark and Ceduna.
June 2024 will see Bangarra present the premiere of Horizon – a double bill opening with Kulka by Bangarra alum Sani Townson, followed by the primary piece, The Light Inside.
