New prize at Sculpture by the Sea in honour of Neil Balnaves AO

The Foundation is pleased to announce the Neil Balnaves AO Anniversary Prize to honour the 25th exhibition of Sculpture by the Sea Bondi.

The iconic seaside festival opened on Friday, 20 October, and each year draws thousands of visitors to Sydney’s East, celebrating the union between art and landscape through artworks that line the Bondi to Tamarama Beach coastal walk.

The Balnaves Family and the Foundation are marking this milestone with the Neil Balnaves AO Anniversary Prize, a $25,000 prize awarded to Japanese artist Masuyaki Sugiyama for his piece Moving Stillness (2020/2023).

Victoria Balnaves, Trustee of The Balnaves Foundation, said “Neil Balnaves AO was a passionate and dedicated supporter of the arts. Sculpture was an area of significant interest to Neil and he personally supported Sculpture by the Sea Bondi in its formative years. In this, its 25th iteration, Neil’s family and The Balnaves Foundation are delighted to dedicate an award in his memory.

The Balnaves Foundation congratulates David Handley AM and the Sculpture by the Sea team on this milestone exhibition.”

You can find Moving Stillness on the beach at Tamarama. Sculpture by the Sea Bondi is on now until 6 November.
